The city of Milan is the international centre of fashion and ‘haute couture’, but also of partying. From Tuesday 21st of February till the 25th of the same month, the Ambrosian Carnival will take place, famous around the world for its joyful ways.

Although the young ones are the happiest in this type of events, the whole family can have a good time. Even many tourists choose to go on holiday in Milan during these dates in February to make the most of this chance and also attend the carnival.

The five days that the show lasts will be full of good energy and the whole city will dress up in many colours to dance to the rhythm of the most eccentric and crazy carriages. There will also be different enjoyable activities such as street shows, recitals, free shows and games for children such as make up workshops, the young girls’ favourite.

In the face painting workshops, the children learn how to draw butterflies, suns and stars on their faces. The teachers are the same ones that participate in the carnival and have been doing this for years. That’s why Milan is full of joy, because even the younger ones in the family are up for dancing and dressing up.

The event has Piazza Mercanti as its central point, and it’s called Ambrosian as a tribute to San Ambrosio, who was the one who organized this for the first time according to the tale. The most famous character of all time in the carnival is ‘Meneghino’. This typically Milanese character is a half good half rogue serf because he makes fun of the city’s rich people. To be in line with the carnival, you can dress up as this character very easily: with a long brown coat, shorts, red and white striped stockings and, especially, a crazy three-point hat.
