Milan Fashion Week – The Countdown and the Controversy

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Thursday 25 February 2010 12:30 pm

It’s that time of year again. Milan Fashion Week is just around the corner, and it’s a time when all the beautiful people will descend onto the city. Hotels and apartments in Milan will be full to bursting with models, agents, designers and the fashion elite, and if you want to indulge in some people-spotting then now would definitely be the time to go.

Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week runs from February 24th to March 3rd, and designers and stylists everywhere will be frantically trying to make those last-minute arrangements. Controversy recently hit the shows, however, when it was revealed that Anna Wintour, American Vogue editor and true fashion icon, would only be attending for three short days.

This set the fashion world into turmoil with all the top fashion houses wanting to change their schedules so they could showcase their latest designs in front of the fashion monarch, with the most important houses re-arranging their shows to coincide her visit between February 26th and the 28th. Fendi, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana and Armani are just a few of those couture brands who wanted to change their dates, as they had previously been due to showcase their Autumn/Winter 2010/11 collections later in the week.

However, this angered some commentators who were furious at the effects this had on the behind-the-scenes workers of the shows, but when you have the opportunity to present your collection to the most influential fashion editor in the world I’m sure you wouldn’t mind a bit of inconvenience! The shows will of course still be going ahead, so if you’re lucky enough to have a seat at one of them make sure to double-check the schedules so you don’t miss out on any of the action.

Milan is arguably the fashion capital of the world, with Italian fashion being incredibly influential. A lot of the top designers hail from this part of the world and many houses still have their headquarters in Milan itself, and that’s what makes Milan Fashion Week such a big deal – it’s the benchmark for fashion shows everywhere.

The city will be buzzing over the next week making it the perfect time to indulge in every excess that it has to offer. So, if you’re after excitement, fashion and celebrities, book the next plane out and do not miss the Milan Fashion Week. Rent the best Apartments in Milan to find a suitable accommodation.

Yayoi Kusama- the dots’ obsession

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Tuesday 23 February 2010 12:36 pm

Today I’ll speak about dots. And talking about spots, we should mention the obsession of the Japanese Yayoi Kusama for these spots. She loves the dots, especially the red and white ones, and also the mirrors. Her art is her connection to the infinite.

Yayoi Kusama dots

Mistreated by her mother, she suffered from hallucinations since she was a child. She says that if she hadn’t done art, she would have committed suicide long ago. She now voluntarily lives in a mental institution but she has never stopped her art work. She has her small art workshop nearby where she lives.

About her painting “Flower” (1954), she declared: “One day I was watching a red flower on the tablecloth and suddenly I saw the same pattern everywhere: on the roof, on the walls, on my own body and on the universe. I was spinning in infinite time and space. When I realized it I was shocked”. In the 70s she returned to his hometown, Japan.

Yayoi Kusama has exhibited “I Want to Live Forever” in Milan. If you have not had the chance to see her works, we recommend you follow her tracks: something like that is very difficult to see nowadays. Her work is really peculiar and surreal. When you immerse yourself in her world you do not know where fiction begins and where it ends to become reality… Psychedelic!

In 2009 the Japanese company KDDI AU launched 3 new phone models designed by her. In 2010 she surprised us promoting the Audi R8 car.

And after seeing so many dots, what if we take a stroll through Milan to relax a little bit? Have a tasty meal accompanied by good wine and enjoy the delicious pasta. Rent Apartments in Milan to sleep well. Let’s dream about this romantic and fantastic city!

The First 3D Erotic Film

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Wednesday 10 February 2010 11:20 am

After the crushing phenomenon of James Cameron’s “Avatar”, the most successful box office to the date, the enthusiasm for three-dimensional films is growing and growing everyday as more curious and surprising projects are being announced.

3d-erotic-film

Projects such as the one Italian film-maker Tinto Brass, director of erotic films such as “Salon Kitty” (1975) or “Caligula” (1979), who recently announced he is going to shoot the first 3-D porn movie.
Brass (76 years old), has always been fascinated by eroticism, and he maintains that now is the right moment to use the 3-D format on this movie genre.

The director from Milan declared that this film will not only be the first erotic 3-D film in the world, but it will become the first Italian movie to use that technique.

Tinto Brass plans to “revisit an abandoned project about a Roman Emperor that was ruined by Americans”, suggesting that the film will be a remake of “Caligula”, his most controversial film, co-written by Gore Vidal, in which he reviewed the Roman Emperor’s depraved life. The tape was partially censured as well, and even forbidden in United Kingdom.

Are you ready to watch erotic or porn cinema in 3-D? Undoubtedly, you will have strong and thrilling sensations! Tinto Brass asserted on this respect: “If an actress holds her hand closer to the camera, the audience will have the feeling that she is touching their trousers. It’s a splendid experience”.
Perhaps with this initiative, erotic cinema re-emerges from its decadence and starts a new golden age, like it did in the 70’s.The worst thing about this 3-D matter is the awful cardboard glasses used to watch these films. Not cool at all!

So, don’t be shy, and if you are planning a visit to Milan, book an apartment in Milan and take a dare with this new and exciting experience. And go with your partner, it will be funnier!

Astrology Numerology – What do the numbers predict for you?

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Monday 8 February 2010 12:33 pm

We all seem to have a number that follows us around, don’t we? First, we don’t pay much attention to it then after seeing it everywhere we try to attach some importance to it and find some meaning to it. Why do I often see the same number everywhere I look? Maybe the numerology, (one of many beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things) will reveal to you some things that have gone unnoticed.

numerology

Again this number! What does it mean? Maybe it’s because someone is thinking of me, or a warning signal, or an inner spiritual experience, or even telepathy. Who knows? It can not be a coincidence! Some interpret these appearances as codes that reveal things, because the numbers are the embodiment of perfection. Pythagoras, a Greek philosopher and mathematician, is not only known for his theorem, but also as the father of the science of numbers. He said that “The world is built on the power of numbers. The Hindus also considered it a sacred science and the Hebrews linked them with the cosmic forces.

Astrology Numerology tries to make the numbers talk to us. According to this, each one has its own symbolism. It is like tarot, palmistry or astrology: it is a metaphysics “science” that tries to see beyond, to give some meaning to facts and even define someone’s personality. Knowing the date of a person’s birth and his/her full name, you can know his character, his inner world, his destiny, his natural talents and his spiritual challenges.

One of the most common things is to sum up the figures of the date of birth, we take an example: someone who was born on 04/03/1998 will have the number 7 (4 +3 +1 +9 +9 +8 = 34. 3 +4 = 7), a symbol of intellect, of idealism. He will be defined as a lovely person, lover of solitude and the peace and as a perfectionist. Also, if the figures add up to the date of birth to the current year, we can know the numerology meaning of the year for everyone.

What if all this is a superstitious myth? How can a number help me? Maybe it’s just an invention of man to help them in their lives, to give them more strength and more security. The important thing is that you agree with yourself. Numerology meaning may not be an exact science, but it may give us clues. Life is never predictable.

If you give importance to the numbers or not, it just depends on you: choose a date and travel for a few days. The Lombard capital will reveal many things to you. Rent Apartments in Milan and enjoy your stay in this exquisite city.

The Last supper by Leonardo da Vinci

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Wednesday 3 February 2010 11:56 am

It is in Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan where one of the most enigmatic paintings in the history of art is on display: The Last Supper (1495-1498) by Italian Renaissance genius, Leonardo da Vinci. Despite being a biblical theme, it intrigues us more than La Gioconda, as it is a work that inspires fiction, historians and leaves many a spectator fascinated. Leonardo captures in this painting a crucial moment in the life of Christ, the very moment in which he states: “One of you shall betray me”.

last-supper-davinci

The expressions on the apostle’s faces are amazing: each reacts differently to this statement, something that is noticed by the grimaces and gestures of the hands. From left to right, we can recognize four groups of three apostles and at the centrre of the table, separated from the others, Jesus Christ. On one side we see Bartholomew, James the Less and Andrew, Judas Iscariot with black hair and a beard, Simon Peter and John, Thomas , James, and Philip, Matthew, Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot. The twelve are gathered around the table to share the bread and wine of the Last Supper of Christ, where he announces the forthcoming betrayal of one of them. Each one wonders if it’s them or not and are anxious. The Catholic Church considers this dramatic moment as the institution of the Eucharist.

One of the enigmas of this masterpiece is the hand that appears between Simon and John, and seems to come from nowhere. There are also questions as to the character of John, who looks female; a figure reminiscent of the Mona Lisa. This painting has been restored seven times since the technique used was not one of the best. One of the restorations however, lasted 21 years!

We can not reveal all the secrets and interpretations contained in this giant painting (460 cm x 880 cm) as throughout history new readings and new details have been found. The symbolism of the characters has never really been understood and it appears to be an inexhaustible source of mystical meanings.

If you want to discover a few more secrets about this fascinating piece of artwork, travel to Milan but please book in advance because not more than twenty people at once are allowed to see the painting and once in the room you can not stay for more than ten minutes. Each year, around 300,000 people do get to visit it, however. Leonardo was a genius of painting, mathematics, engineering, nature, perspective, architecture and sculpture. Visit the Last Supper and take advantage of the charm of the city. If you rent apartments in Milan, you are guaranteed a pleasant and worthwhile stay.
