Is it possible to celebrate a birthday or a New Year without a dessert that is accompanied by champagne? At a party, a dessert is not to be left out! Unfortunately, this tradition is often contrasted with our obsession with dietary requirements and with the bathroom scales. However, the expert nutritionists tell us that a piece of cake is not a mortal sin if we eat a healthy and balanced diet. And don’t forget to do some physical exercise that helps us to burn off those unwanted calories! The experts also warn us about the “danger” of a dessert also depends on the type of sugar it contains. We don’t have to always associate calories with desserts: there are also desserts and sweets suitable for strict diet regimes – say hello to diet desserts.

Now we’ll show you how we can improve our daily lives by satisfying our sweet tooth without having to experience terrible feelings of guilt, trying to resist the croissant in the baker’s shop every morning. The secret lies in the ingredients! There are also little tricks that can help us.

If we want to prepare a cake for a birthday, we can choose an apple pie with dough made from oil instead of butter, and leave the cream for another occasion. Yogurt, the diet jams (with sweeteners and without sugar) and above all, fruit are ingredients that will allow you to prepare diet desserts worthy of a chef.

A good example is pears with cinnamon and a bit of bitter cocoa. You just have to cook the pears with a bit of sweetener and then powder them with cinnamon and cocoa. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? Another dessert that everyone loves is the Italian tiramisu. Replace one of its basic ingredients, the mascarpone, with non-fat yogurt: no need to stress here that calories are significantly reduced!

When preparing the dessert, pay attention on choosing non-fat ingredients rich in proteins. Use skimmed milk or eggs and avoid butter. If you love candies, sweets and cakes, but do not like to cook them, try to convince your local baker to make diet sweets. A last suggestion: if possible, it’s better to eat sweets in the morning and in small doses.

Rome vs Milan, a tale of two Italian cities

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Thursday 19 November 2009 1:30 pm

AC Milan vs. AS Roma is much more than football. As in many Mediterranean countries, the two Italian cities enjoy a unique and passionate character. With a vast range of cultural and leisure activities, one finds it difficult to choose where to spend the holidays, whether in Milan or Rome. Opponents, let’s begin!

Let’s start with the cultural offerings of each city, which represent great importance in the tourist sector. In this case the Italian capital is the winner without a doubt. Although Milan offers amazing museums, including the famous Brera Pinocateca (Italian art from the fourteenth century to the twentieth century) or the prestigious Poldi Pezzoli Museum (with masterpieces by Sandro Botticelli, Antonio Pollaiolo, Giovanni Bellini), Rome wins this round, because the whole city is considered an oudoor museum. The Eternal City is full of history and offers you a wide variety of museums – many of them are the most important in Europe. Do not miss a visit to the Vatican Museums (the largest art collection of the Roman Catholic Church) or the National Gallery of Modern Art (with works by Vincent Van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky or Piet Mondrian), to the Borghese Gallery and other wonderful museums.

After having visited all these museums, why not rest a bit in one of the stunning parks of the cities? Both Milan and Rome offer places that are havens of relaxation and wellbeing. Whether in the Sempione Park, in the Forlanini park, in the Lambro Park, the Naviglio Pavese Park in Milan, the Villa Borghese gardens or in the Villa Ada Park or Botanical Garden in Rome, you can relax in both cities: this is the perfect option to forget your daily problems and all the stress of everyday life. In this category both cities tie.

But what other things stand out in the tourist destinations? For example, the festivals. While the prestigious International Rome Film Festival has awarded great actors such as Sean Connery, Sophia Loren and Al Pacino, Milan will win in this category: the famous Fashion Week turns Milan into the most important city for 7 whole days where the most famous designers show their new collections. Victory for Milan!

The list of comparisons can be endless. Which is better? Why don’t you discover it for yourself? You can start by visiting Milan. Rent Apartments in Milan and enjoy a comfortable stay in Italy!

Photoshop: to Retouch, to Embellish and many other Disasters

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Thursday 5 November 2009 2:32 pm

The twentieth century has given us one of the most useful, but also most controversial treasures of our time: the photoshop. Retouching images seems to be normal in today’s society. Whereas before you got ready a lot and you had to stand long for the perfect picture, now everything is much faster and is very easy thanks to the photoshop. You just need a digital camera, a photo editing program: put something else here, take off a little there, now I want thicker lips and removes some skin impurities…. Everything is possible! The celebrities are it main victims. And with so many retouches, sometimes the disasters are too evident.

photoshop and beauty

No wonder that the world really go crazy with the unattainable ideal of beauty. You just have to pick up any magazine and take a glance to any page, where countless perfect bodies, smooth legs, and unwrinkled faces are shown etc. But what the hell is the secret recipe of the celebrities? Is there any cure for the ugliness? No! Behind all this false hidden beauty, there are the so-called gods of the retouches. But unfortunately also the most creative editors commit dramatic mistakes, especially when working under time pressure. Even the most inattentive readers discover these errors at the first sight. These are only some possible examples: one of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s twins with two heads, the famous surfer Veronica Kay’s with only one leg, many model without her navel or nipples, Amy Winehouse with seven fingers in a hand, Beyoncé with three arms… These are just some examples of the countless rare photos that you can see every day in the daily press.

Despite these disasters, editing photo programs can turn imagens into true art works. But the most important thing is to find the perfect mixture in order that the photos do not seem to be ugly and unnatural. After all, who has not ever wish tho have a perfect aspect? But do not worry, because the little flaws make you even more beautiful, because natural beauty is, after all, the best in the world.

If you like taking pictures, you should travel to one of the most beautiful cities of Italy. Milan is not only the birthplace of the Interancional fashion, but it also offers spectacular landscapes and places to take breathtaking pictures without the help of photoshop. Rent apartments in Milan and enjoy a comofortable and economic stay.

History’s most stupid deaths

Posted by milanblogger | milan | Monday 2 November 2009 2:22 pm

Death, a difficult subject that society doesn’t talk about very openly, doesn’t always have to bring back sad and sentimental thoughts in our souls. Although it could sound a little bit harsh and absurd, throughout history there have occurred many many deaths that make us think ‘Oh no, that’s so stupid’. But it’s true: when we are talking about some important personalities of the world’s history and get to know how they died, we can sometimes only shake our head in amazement.

Quite possibly, every one of us has already read a biography about an important personality. But when they talk about the way or how this person died, they often say something like ‘unpleasant accident’ and that’s it. Well, we don’t know if they try to hide a kind of shame, but what we do know is that a death doesn’t have to be necessarily ridiculous to be stupid.

If we start with France, there is one example that stands out among the curious ways to die. François Vatel the chef and Maître of King Louis XIV committed suicide in 1671. And why did all this drama happen? Well, the little gastronomical perfectionist was getting crazy because of the lateness of the fish he ordered for his banquet. The stupid part of this story is that just before they found his corpse, the ordered fish had arrived. And once again we come to the conclusion that we shouldn’t take our jobs too seriously.

We can also find uncountable unpleasant accidents of famous celebrities in the USA. Jack Daniel, for instance, the founder of the famous Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey died in 1911 because of blood poisoning which was caused six years before when he injured his toe kicking his safe in anger because he couldn’t remember the combination to open it. This is another fine example that shows us that we should sometimes be more patient.

The list of absurd deaths seems to be infinite. Starting with the American writer Sherwood Anderson, who died after swallowing a piece of toothpick to Antoni Gaudí, the famous Spanish architect, who was run over and killed by a tram and ending in the famous Australian Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who died after being fatally pierced in the chest by a stingray barb during the dangerous filming for his TV program.

You never know when it’s your turn. So we should enjoy each day as if it were our last. And where can you enjoy life in the best way? During your holidays of course! Milan, one of the most romantic cities of Italy, offers you many interesting museums, amazing places, delicious food, nice people and fascinating landscapes to name but a few.
